Starting Faith Journaling When You Don’t Know Where to Begin

Faith journaling wasn’t something I planned to start.
It started quietly — with a pen, a notebook, and a desire to feel closer to God.
I didn’t know the “right” way to do it.
I didn’t have fancy words or structured prayers.
I just had thoughts, questions, gratitude, and a heart that wanted to slow down.
Faith journaling became my safe space.
Some days I write prayers.
Some days I write scriptures.
Some days I write worries and let them go.
What I’ve learned is this: faith journaling doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful.
You don’t need:
- A certain notebook
- A specific format
- Long, eloquent prayers
You just need honesty.
Faith journaling helped me:
- Reflect instead of react
- Pray through my planning and budgeting
- Trust God with my goals, fears, and finances
Now, my planner and my faith journal often overlap. I write prayers next to goals. Gratitude next to budgets. Scripture next to intentions.
It reminds me that God is present in every part of my life — including my plans, my money, and my routines.
If you’ve been wanting to start faith journaling, let this be your sign:
Start where you are. Write what you feel. God meets you there.
